Project Activity

Sustainable Agriculture:

  • Attended Rockingham County Finance Committee meeting, technical support, for Harrisonburg Farmers Market Pavilion, 1/23/08;
  • 2/5/08 attended Carbon Trading workshop in Toms Brook, Council project;
  • 2/21/08 Local Foods Initiative Group and Buy Fresh Buy Local group meetings;

Natural Resources:

  • Farm Show assistance for Waste Solutions Forum, Jan. 22-24, Fishersville;
  • 1/28/08 Adaptive Fencing meeting with SWCD technicians to discuss cost estimates;
  • 1/28/08, 2/13/08, 3/6/08 teleconference to discuss planning for WSF II;
  • 2/6/08 WSF steering committee meeting, Charlottesville;
  • 1/2908 Shenandoah Basin Project meeting, Page County;
  • 2/14/08 teleconference with ODEC, JMU, DMME, and RC&D re: pilot energy project;
  • 2/15/08 teleconference of NR Committee to discuss two proposals;
  • 3/4/08 teleconference of NR Committee to discuss three proposals;

Managed Growth and Land Protection:

  • Worked with committee to put forward Letter of Inquiry to Beirne Carter Foundation re: land protection in the Valley.  A full proposal was not invited;

Forestry:

  • Forestry Committee Meeting 1/25/08;
  • 2/28/08 met with Joan Comanor and Scott Nye roadside manager for VDOT Staunton District to discuss invasive species control;

Executive Committee:

Community Development:

  • Met with JMU students/Wayne Teel, JMU professor, Friday afternoons to discuss grant funding for RMH/JMU CSA, 2/1; 2/8; 2/15; 2/22/08;

Grants/Funding

  • VEE quarterly report submitted 1/31/08;
  • Market Maker Advisory Committee teleconference 2/1/08;
  • Teleconference with NFWF, VA Tech 1/31/08;
  • 3/5/08 conference call with CBFN project holders to discuss administration of adaptive fencing grant;
  • NFWF grant PIs teleconference 3/10/08;
  • Submitted NFWF grant on behalf of Smith Creek Partnership 2/28/08;
  • Coordinated submitting numerous Council letters of support to NFWF for small watersheds grant, CIG, etc., 2/25-2/29/08;

NRCS Activities

  • 1/30/08 RWA meeting in Woodstock; picked up meeting documents from DEQ related to RWA 1/28/08;
  • Completed and submitted draft public input section for RWA North Fork 2/29/08;
  • 1/28/08 VA coordinators teleconference;
  • First Monday and third Tuesday of the month SE Association teleconferences with VA coordinators, including 2/19 and 3/3/08;
  • 2/11/08 Earth Team meeting, Richmond; am RC&D representative this year;
