James W. Nichols, Past RC&D Chair, Headwaters Soil and Water Conservation District, has lived and worked as a teacher and school administrator in the Shenandoah Valley for 44 years.  He received his undergraduate degree from Lynchburg College and his graduate degree from Madison College (now James Madison University).  He is involved in numerous volunteer projects but has a special interest in soil and water quality as well as open space preservation and management and conservation of all natural resources.  He is a director on the Headwaters Soil and Water Conservation District Board as well as the Shenandoah RC&D Council.
